Island Peak Climbing Overview

Island Peak Climbing, also called Imja Tse (6,189 m / 20,305 ft), is one of the most popular introductory Himalayan climbing adventures in Nepal. Located in the stunning Everest region of eastern Nepal, this expedition combines high altitude trekking, cultural discovery, and real mountaineering experience. For travelers who want to stand on a Himalayan summit without committing to an extreme expedition, Island Peak is considered one of the best first climbing peaks in the Himalaya.

Island Peak was first climbed in 1953 by members of the historic British Everest expedition, the same team that later completed the first successful ascent of Mount Everest. Since then the peak has attracted climbers from around the world because it offers a rewarding challenge with spectacular views of the Everest region, Our 16 day Island Peak Climbing itinerary is designed to be safe, efficient, and enjoyable. This program focuses directly on the Island Peak summit without including the Everest Base Camp extension. By avoiding extra trekking days, the expedition remains shorter and more focused while still providing proper acclimatization and essential climbing preparation. Travelers who wish to combine Everest Base Camp with Island Peak can also join our longer expedition, The journey begins in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and the gateway to the Himalaya. Before the expedition starts, our experienced team at Sole Encounters Adventures provides a full briefing that includes equipment preparation, safety information, and expedition planning. Kathmandu is also the best place to rent or purchase climbing gear before heading into the mountains, Your adventure truly begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, landing at the famous Tenzing Hillary Airport, one of the most remarkable mountain airstrips in the world. From Lukla the trekking trail enters the beautiful Khumbu Valley, home of the Sherpa people and surrounded by some of the most famous mountains on Earth, During the trek you pass through traditional Everest villages including Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pangboche, and Dingboche. These villages offer warm Sherpa hospitality, traditional mountain culture, and breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and many other Himalayan peaks. Along the trail you stay in comfortable teahouses, enjoying warm meals and experiencing the daily life of the mountain communities, Before the summit attempt, climbers arrive at Island Peak Base Camp, where our team sets up a fully organized tented camp. At base camp our experienced Sherpa guides conduct a practical training session covering rope techniques, crampon use, ice axe skills, and safety procedures to prepare climbers for the summit day, The climb to the summit is an exciting alpine challenge. Reaching the top of Island Peak rewards climbers with unforgettable panoramic views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Baruntse, Makalu, and the impressive Imja Valley, With careful planning, experienced guides, and strong safety standards, Sole Encounters Adventures invites you to join this remarkable Himalayan journey and achieve one of the most rewarding summit experiences in Nepal.

16th September, 2025

From the moment we arrived in Kathmandu, the team at Sole Encounters Adventures took great care of everything. The itinerary was well planned and the acclimatization days helped us adjust to the altitude. Our guide had excellent knowledge of the Everest region and made the climb feel safe and achievable. The teahouse stays during the trek were comfortable and the views of Ama Dablam and Lhotse were spectacular. I am very happy I chose this company for my Island Peak expedition.
